After another night of Edinburgh Bowling Association action for the Northern there were contrasting fortunes between our two gents teams again as the first team lost 7-2 away to Matiland while the 2nds won 5-4 at home to Slateford. Meanwhile, our ladies team had a 5-0 defeat in their fixture away to Dean, but when you look at the scores, you can see that it was alot closer than the last time and that our team have progressed alot over this half season
Both gents teams found themselves depleted for players this week due to the ongoing Football over in Germany and with that considered, for the 1st team to know that they can still get their season back on track with some big wins over the coming weeks is a consolation. Last night it was Euan Craigs rink that got them the 2 points, but it was close across the board with an aggregate difference of just 4 shots overall.
The win for the 2nds was more than welcome as, in combination with London Road Foundry losing, it extends our teams lead at the top of that table to 5 points and keeps their momentum going. It was the Jim Bathgate and Mick Morrison rinks who picked up the victories and there was an overall 8 shot difference.
Next wednesday our gents 1st XVI are at home to league leaders Corstorphine in what’s being seen as a must win match if they wish to be in promotion contention, while our 2nd XVI are away to Brunstane. Our ladies will be at home to Corstorphine on the Monday
