Northern Supports Mental Health Awareness Week

It’s Mental Health Awareness week from May 13th – 19th. A great chance to spread the word about the potential mental health benefits of bowls

The theme for this year is“co-creation” and that’s what bowling clubs are all about, bringing people together to create safe, inclusive places in their local communities with the common goal of playing bowls and improving the club

Lawn bowls is a low impact activity combining hand-eye coordination with cognitive skills & balance. It also improves aerobic fitness & can be played by people of any age or ability

There is specific evidence to show that it can also reduce stress, irritability, fatigue and social isolation while improving sleep, cognition, mood and self-esteem

It also counts towards the UK chief medical officers recommended 75 minutes of physical activity per week at a pace anyone can enjoy alongside friendly faces from all backgrounds who you otherwise wouldn’t meet

Sometimes we all need distractions from our problems & bowls can be a good means of that too. But also, all your clubmates become your friends, working together to win matches or improve the state of the club & it’s safe to talk to them either out on the green or in the bar.

Don’t suffer in silence
