A Great Day Out For The Jackie Christie Open Triples 2024

Last Sunday, 11th August, the club hosted our annual one-day triples competition named after our legendary Commonwealth Gold winner, and it was a wonderful day out in the sun as we welcomed guests from other clubs to play along side us in a day of top bowls, grub and festivities

The event, sponsored by M & D Vehicle Management Ltd, was won by our very own Laurence Robertson, alongside David Barclay and Chris Fallen from Goldenacre, who defeated Andy, Davey and Rita Reid in the final after a competitive and friendly, long day of bowls in which they battled through a 6 team group, a quarter final, and a semi-final before lifting the famous trophy

In what turned out to be probably one of the busiest days at the club this year, we had guests from as far as Carnoustie, Darlington, Arbroath, Burntisland, London Road Foundry, Brunstane, Queensberry, Goldenacre, Summerside, Sighthill, Wardie, Dudley and Gorgie Mills either playing alongside our own, or with teams of their own.

It’s actually the first time that the doors have been opened in that way, as previously the competition had been an invitational. But I think it’s safe to say that the decision to make it open was a success and it was great to have so many wonderful guests in the club

This coming Friday we have our annual Hibs-Hearts fans match with a 630pm kick-off and then the very next day, on Saturday, we have the Bobby Loch Two Bowls Singles, another one-day competition that should be a lovely day out. The week after, Saturday August 31st, we’re having an invitational pairs. Grab a partner and sign up on the noticeboard while you can!
