On Sunday 27th April, backed by glorious sunshine, Northern hosted a Try Bowls day, inviting members of the local community down to try the sport out with a view to joining.
After a poster campaign around the local area, a feature in The Edinburgh Reporter, and a feature on the Bowls Scotland website, we ended up with around 15 or so people coming down to test their mettle under the guidance of trained club coach Garry Harrison.
We did manage to gain some new members, with some having also already played for the clubs 2nd XVI, showing that there are opportunities there for people to grasp if they want them
As a result of hosting the day Northern are now officially recognised as a Try Bowls club on the Bowls Scotland website which should hopefully result in more general interest in the club from new players
Recruitment needs to be a year-long thing though, it can’t just all fall down to one day. So keep spreading the word however you can and invite people down to try the sport out whenever there’s the opportunity to do so.
Sunny weekends are the ideal time really!
