Tuesday evening saw the Northern play Leith in the qtr final of this long established Edinburgh top 10 event at the Northern,
in the singles Darren Prentice played the Leith main man and after a lot of switching of the lead in this very tight game it was the Leith man who ran out a 21-18 winner,
representing the pairs for the home team were Garry Harrison and Euan Craig, another tight game of constantly changing ends saw us go into the last end peels at 14, the Leith lead drew a beauty right on top of the jackhis 2nd bowl and after a few furious drives and near misses from Euan the leith bowl remained at the end for a one shot victory for Leith,
the triples fought out a mammoth match on rink 1 with Jimmy Prentice ,Andy Reid and old Reliable Ian Miller at skip, we were just about to switch the floodlights on for this one which lasted at least half an hour longer than all the other matches, at the forth last end with the Northern 12-9 up they lost a 5 to go 12-14 down, but a great recovery at the next end got the 5 back to go up 17-14, lost a 1 at the next and at the last end got a 1 to win by 3, big win lads ,
On R5 our rink of Gordon Wilson snr , George Prentice , John Urquhart and Gordon Wilson jnr were in blistering form and got off to a great start and never looked to be in any real danger, with Snr and Big George playing tidy bowls at the front and John and Jnr having a brilliant back end , changing heads when required, they won very comfortably with a good shots difference helping massively to give the Northern a shots victory into the semi final,
We now meet the Carricknowe hot shots at Craigentinny on Saturday the 13th of August.
The other Semi final will be contested between Parkside and Craigentinny at Gorgie Mills.
