Hi guys as our bowling colleagues head through west to play for the major Scottish titles, normal business as usual takes place at the Famous Northern, last night there was 5 ties that took place to reach the Qtr finals.
Garry Harrison & Davie Reid played out an interesting tie on R1 on the hottest day of the year so far,the speed & the draws on all hands were hard to control, & it was Garry that sneaked through on this one,
Our President and Master Jim Bathgate & Grant young fought out a tough one on R3 that went all the way to 18-18 before Jim managed to pull away and with the help of a massive gobber which he took in his own inimitable manner managed to see it out 21-18,,,,,During some post game clubhouse banner Jim was overheard reminding certain members that he is still in both the Senior Champ and the main Club Championship and he says this is his year for doing the big double,,,, and there it is,,,,if anyone in the club didn’t already know that your President is the eternal optimist,,, YOU DO NOW !!!!!!.
On R4 Ian Miller took on Mike Morrison and this was another game that went on until almost sun down, Ian started well and got away from Mike early on but Mike pulled back, this game was a game of many 1 shot ends and Ian was the eventual victor in this hard fought game.
On R5 Walter Murray played 3 time past Champion John Urquhart, another hard fought game but John always had the answers and experience at the telling times and won this one relatively comfortably.
Unfortunately over in the shade on R6 a family affair of two time past champ Andy Reid against Son and recent past champ Jamie, unfortunately only because they are drawn on the least played Rink only because it was a full green tonight which was great to see, Jamie caught this rink the best on the night and beat Dad to 11 on this family grudge match putting Jamie into the Quarters with a hope of matching his Dads two Northern Championships to date.
So with these 5 ties played tonight & Gordon Wilson jnr given a walk over the two other remaining ties to be played this week are on Wednesday evening Kenny Lawrence plays past Champion Gordon Wilson snr, and on Friday night another family affair of double past Champion ( a long time ago ) Graeme Prentice takes on brother Jim Prentice to take the family hopes into the Quarter finals, please get along and support these guys if you can , there are some interesting Championship ties ahead as we build towards the final of the main event, the Championship final 2022.
