1st XV1s Vs Carrick Knowe

This game took place on Monday evening rather than the usual Wednesday fixture as requested by Carricknowe to accommodate thier National winning rink taking place at Ayr this week in the British Isles Championships, we wish them all the very best in pursuit of this major honour,

So on R1 we had Garry H,Snoddy,John Urquhart & skip Young Gordon after 4 ends our boys were 5-1 up but a slack 5 end saw us losing a 5 to go 5-6 down at 10 ends it was still close at 8-9 down however on the 11th end we picked up a 6 to go 14-9 and at the 14th end also picked up a fabulous 4 to go 19-10 and at 17 the final score on R1 was 21-12 to our lads and a great start for the Northern against a strong CK rink skipped by Colin Mitchell,

On R3 was Darren P,John Young,Davy Scott & Jamie Reid, After 5 ends our lads were 6-4 up, after 10 ends Jamie had extended his lead to 5 with the score at 12-7,at end 14 it was 15-9 and the last couple of ends were very tight with CK lying a few and Jamie & Davy Scott playing a couple of great saving shots to stop CK picking up a big count, and final score 15-12 to the Northern & 4 points in the bag,

R4 had Andy Reid,Walter Murray,Ian Miller skipped by Euan Craig against a strong CK team skipped by POD,CK won 4 of the 5 1st ends to go 5-1 up, at the 9th end our lads picked up a 4 to go 8-6 infront, at the 11th & 12th end we lost a 3 & 2 respectively , then we got a 3 at the 14th to make the score 13-12, CK then picked up a 1 & a 4 to go 17 -13 with 1 end to play and a 1 to the Northern at the last end gave CK thier 1st 2 points of the night with a 17-14 win,

The last game was on R5 where we had Graham Prentice,Grant Young,Geo Prentice & James Barr against another strong CK rink skipped by treble Scottish winner and recently picked to represent Scotland James Hogg, after 5 ends the score was 3-5, and after 10 ends our lads were doing well to keep in touch with the score at a tight 7-9 to CK, at 14 ends they had opened up a gap at 9-15 & a loss of 5 & 1 on the last 2 ends saw CK win this one 10-21,

so in summary final score of 60 Northern 62 CK & a 4-5 win to CK, but a great result for the Northern against a strong CK team and hopefully we can use this positive result as a spring board to finish of the season on a strong note.
